The dental surgeon positions the dental implant in the jawbone by making an incision in the gum beforehand. Most patients describe minor postoperative symptoms that are comparable to or less than those of a normal tooth extraction. #### Is it painful to get a dental implant? It is practically painless. At most, minor swelling may occur the next day, associated with a hematoma and some discomfort. Of course, these (if any) are relieved by analgesics or anti-inflammatories. - Consider painkillers (analgesics) such as Dafalgan (maximum 4g per day for an adult) - Combine painkillers with anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen (for a maximum of 3-4 days in adults) - Use an antibacterial mouthwash (Chlorhexidine 0.2%) 24 hours after extraction for 1 week - Take your prescribed antibiotic therapy (if applicable). #### When will I get my new tooth? 6 to 8 weeks after the surgery, the dental implant is uncovered through the gum and an impression is sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the crown. After a trial period, it is screwed onto the implant, thus restoring the shape and function of the missing tooth durably. #### What is the average price of a dental implant? A dental implant costs an average of 3,500 CHF. The price will vary depending on whether a bone graft is needed, the quality of the implant, and the prosthetic tooth that is placed on top of it.
