Orthodontics

children

An appointment with an orthodontist is recommended for the first time around the age of 6. At this age, an initial consultation can check the number of teeth, their position or detect jaw problems that may require early treatment.

Orthodontics

What is orthodontics

Approximately 1 in 5 children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old are recommended to undergo an initial phase of orthodontic treatment to prevent overly complex procedures during adolescence.

For the others, treatment starts around age 11!
This is because the teenager has nicely full adult teeth,
but the jaws are still growing. We can therefore
easily treat the majority of cases, from the simplest(alignment
to the most complicated (incorrect positioning of the
jawbones).

Our dentists use metal braces and it is even possible to fit aligners ( Invisalign type) for the most demanding patients who would like an invisible treatment.

Make an appointment in one of our dental offices in Switzerland located in the cities of : Payerne (canton of Vaud), Domdidier, Riaz, Yvonand, Echallens, Boudry, Saint Blaise or Le Landeron where a

specialist in orthodontics will receive you.

How does orthodontic treatment work?

Braces of any kind are a natural part of orthodontic treatment, and are therefore included in the initial quotation.
Our quotations no longer depend solely on the length of treatment.
Once you have reached a certain length of treatment, additional steps will not cost you any more.

It’s also important to mention that the price indicated on the
quotation includes the entire service and will not be exceeded without
prior discussion. From the outset, you’ll know exactly
how much the treatment will cost: no nasty surprises!

Why do children have orthodontics?

The interest of orthodontics in a child is not only aesthetic. In addition to beautifying the smile, it promotes oral health and general health, both of which are closely linked. In fact, it is common for children to detect a possible problem such as a misalignment of the teeth, too much space between the teeth or a lack of space for all the teeth to come out correctly in the mouth. By having these problems corrected by an orthodontist, the risk of aggravation in adulthood can be limited from an early age.

Dental alignment techniques

In dentistry, orthodontists can offer 3 types of orthodontic treatments for children and adolescents:

Traditional braces or dental splints?

What is more effective in orthodontics: braces or aligners like Invisalign?

Whether you opt for braces or transparent aligners, you
will very often achieve the same result. What makes the difference
between a classic and an innovative technique is
above all the patient’s needs. Invisible aligners may be
more discreet and comfortable, but they also require a higher level of patient compliance
(because they are removable), and this motivation
must be taken into account when making the choice.
If the child or teenager is not rigorous enough to wear his
braces, then it’s best to opt for fixed braces
.

What you need to know:
Frequently asked questions

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

The cost of treatment at your orthodontist varies widely:

We encourage you to take out supplementary dental insurance from an early age: on average, it reimburses 90% of treatment costs.

How long should I keep my braces on?

This will depend on the correction to be made. Respecting the biology of the tissues (very low risk of damage), the teeth move about 1 mm per month. After the braces are placed at the orthodontist’s, the treatment can last from 6 to ? months, always depending on where you start and where you want to end up.

When to go to the orthodontist for a child?

Better too early than too late! Therefore, as soon as the baby’s milk teeth are complete, i.e. around 3 years of age, a consultation will be welcome to ensure a follow-up. However, treatment at an orthodontist’s office usually does not begin until the first permanent molars have erupted, at around age six. Make an appointment as soon as possible to have one of our dentists review the situation and advise you.
