## Explanations

In the case of very deep decay or trauma (impact, broken
tooth), irreversible damage to the tooth's nerve can
occur. When this happens, devitalization of the tooth is
essential, as the pulp can no longer heal. In the absence of
treatment, the inflammation progresses to infection of the
root tip, eventually spreading to the jawbone. A painful abscess
or a deep infection can form and be potentially
dangerous to your health.

## How do you get a root canal?

 Tooth devitalization is a painstaking process that involves completely removing the dental pulp, disinfecting the inside of the roots and filling them in. The treatment can be summarized in 3 steps: - **Step 1:** After local anesthesia, an access path is made through the tooth to access the entrance of the canals located in the roots.
- **Step 2**: The length of each root canal is accurately determined. The canals are then cleaned, enlarged with small rotary files, and disinfected with antiseptic products.
- **Step 3**: The roots are sealed to prevent bacterial intrusion
 
 A damaged tooth is often very decayed at the base. It is all the more fragile following root treatment. For these reasons, it must be adequately replenished.
