What is tooth decay?

Dental caries are a result of

infectious disease

that destroys your tooth structure. The latter is characterized by the appearance of a cavity on the surface of the tooth enamel. As the decay progresses, this cavity will work its way into the tooth until it reaches the dental pulp.

Thus, the earlier these lesions are diagnosed, the simpler, faster and cheaper the treatment. That’s why we recommend regular dental checkups even if you don’t have a

poor oral hygiene

. At Panadent, preventing cavities is our top priority. If they are already present, we remove them while caring to spare as much healthy dental tissue as possible.

What you need to know:
Frequently asked questions

How do you know if you have tooth decay?

Is it serious to have a cavity?

Indeed, because they evolve as they grow and contaminate other teeth. Allowing this infectious disease to spread exposes you to emergencies (acute pain), more complex and expensive treatments, and reduces the long-term success of interventions. Therefore, opt for a quick treatment by a dental doctor as soon as cavities appear and your toothbrush is no longer effective.

How is a cavity treated?

To treat a tooth decay, the tooth is anaesthetized (unless the caries is very superficial) and the carious part is removed with a drill. The tooth that has a cavity is filled in order to give it a new look and to restore its integrity.
