Explanations

Periodontitis or periodontal disease is an infectious disease
that destroys the supporting tissues around one or
several teeth. It is mainly caused by the accumulation of
tartar and harmful bacterial flora under the gums.
The inflammation leads to a gradual melting of the bone
around the teeth and the space between the tooth and the gum recedes
decreasing their support and may be accompanied by instability
and loosening of teeth in an already
advanced stage.
The tricky thing about periodontal disease is that it often progresses
painlessly and is often already too late when diagnosed,
hence the importance of regular follow-ups. In addition, this
disease requires regular monitoring and treatment throughout
life, even if it has been stabilized.

The potential recourse to surgical periodontology is always
after the 1st phase of non-surgical treatment. During the
re-evaluation of the latter, the periodontal specialist may
offer options to surgical treatments such as:
