Explanations

Periodontitis or periodontal disease is an infectious disease characterized by the destruction of the supporting tissues around one or more teeth. It is mainly caused by the accumulation of tartar and harmful bacterial flora under the gums. The inflammation it causes leads to gradual melting of the bone around the teeth, and the space between the tooth and gum deepens, diminishing their support and, in advanced stages, leading to tooth mobility and loosening.
The tricky thing about periodontal disease is that it often progresses painlessly, and by the time it’s diagnosed it’s already too late, hence the importance of regular follow-up. What’s more, this disease requires regular monitoring and treatment throughout life, even after it has stabilized.

The potential use of surgical periodontology is always
after a 1st phase of non-surgical treatment. At the
re-evaluation of the latter, the periodontal specialist may
have recourse to surgical treatments such as :
